If these questions feel familiar

Have you ever

wondered…

If so, you are not alone. Many of us interpret these experiences as evidence that we are lazy, too sensitive, weak, or somehow broken.

This study offers another possibility: perhaps your responses developed for reasons that can be met with more curiosity and less judgment

Why do I keep reacting this way?

Why is it so difficult to relax, even when nothing seems wrong?

Why do I put everyone else’s needs before my own?

Why do I understand what I want to change, but still struggle to change it?

Why do I find myself repeating the same patterns in relationships, work, or daily life?

What once seemed confusing or frustrating can begin to make more sense.

A more compassionate reframe

Your responses may be intelligent adaptations

When Deborah discovered Dr. Aimie Apigian’s book, it transformed how she understood stress, overwhelm, and human behavior.

Instead of viewing reactions and patterns as personal shortcomings, she began to understand them as intelligent adaptations of a nervous system doing its best to help navigate life’s experiences.

Developmental science, neuroscience, biology, and attachment research have expanded how we understand the connection between stress, emotional reactions, behavior, relationships, physical symptoms, and the nervous system.

This understanding can create greater self-compassion, reduce shame, and open new possibilities for growth and change.

Why I’m hosting this study

A book that transformed how I understood myself

Instead of viewing my reactions and patterns as personal shortcomings, I began to understand them as intelligent adaptations of a nervous system doing its best to help me navigate life’s experiences.

Because this book has had such a profound impact on me, I’m excited to offer this 12-week educational book study.

My hope is that you will leave with a deeper understanding of stress, the nervous system, human development, and the realization that many of the challenges you have experienced may make far more sense than you once thought.
